This promised icon set's been in the making since November last year but because of Heath Ledger's untimely death, I've postponed it until now. A day doesn't pass that I don't think about him but that is a topic for another entry.

Originally when I started preparing this set, the intro said: "I'm so in love with The Dark Knight already. One of the best sequels of all time, perhaps? CAN'T WAIT, OMFG. And Heath Ledger's Joker? Probably the role that will define him as an actor. Gay cowboy? Not anymore! He's the bloody JOKER."

Then Heath passed away and I could not bring myself to finish the icons. The Joker, at least to me, was dead. An actor I was *this* close to pronouncing my favourite, was gone, and with him went a character I was obsessing over almost as much as I do with my beloved Superman (and that's saying a lot). Not even Superman could soothe me.

But I was wrong because Joker lives on in Heath's performance, just like dear Heath lives on in our memories. It took me a long time to realize it. He'll never be forgotten as long as we remember him. Here's to you, Heath, and thank you for everything. You are missed.

Icons include Batman, Joker and Bale and Ledger in other roles as well. Plenty of animations (see my current icon). Sorry for the delay! Real-life stuff's been very crazy for months (and there is a giant hole in my wall ^^). Things will be back to normal soon.

Today's my 27th Birthday. :( I wish I wasn't that old, in fact, I wish I'd never age at all! *cue DRAMATIC SIGH* Life is unfair and all that.

I'm going to have some pancakes today instead of the usual cake! :) Not sure about the filling yet but something yummy for sure!

How about instead of moping I post this lovely Clark Kent pic from the Superman Returns Movie Adaptation comic.

Soon to come are more SR caps from the dvd extras, as well as a new series of posts about scenes I'd personally cut from the movie or combine with others/rewrite them (to make the movie flow better, etc). I've been thinking of doing this for a long time and it won't be that hard to get the first entry up since a few scenes immediately popped into my head the moment I first thought about this. *chuckle*

Another thing I wanna do is a Supergirl re-design and new origin for my own enjoyment (since the current one in comics is so severely lacking and confusing), including an entry about her hobbies and interests and what she DOES in her free time. As an extra, an entry about the kind of clothes and fashion style that would suit her (in my eyes, anyway).

If it were up to me I'd make Supergirl likeable and interesting to both little girls, teenage girls, women AND the male readers of all ages, where the comic would have something in it for everyone without alienating the other parties. Whenever I think of Linda, there are so many nice things that pop into my head that "could have been" if only she was given the same respect, dedication and love as her cousin Superman.

First and foremost, I'd give her back her secret identity of Linda Lee, since in comics she's just Supergirl right now and has no life or identity at all besides her superhero duties. The secret identity would be re-imagined in this case, starting from fresh. If they can write a little kid into the canon for Lois and Clark to adopt, I can re-imagine Linda.

Thank You so much to everyone on my friendslist who has sent me Xmas and New Year cards! *hugs friendslist*

I've received Superman and Clark Kent oriented cards, fanart and other goodies, including two Superman Returns fanfics, and a bookmark and keychain from the movie! *dance danceeee*

A huge bear hug goes to teh_pariah, moonface, taro_twist, rizny, cmer, duskwillow, as well as Sumaya and Jess!

If anyone else sent cards, they haven't arrived yet but I'm sure they'll turn up eventually. :) Cards sent from USA on the 19th reached me just a few days ago, for instance. There were even some cards that were sent 5 days apart, yet arrived here on the same day. Mail is so crazy and "illogical" during holiday season LOLZ. Most of your cards arrived on time, either before Xmas or between Xmas and New Year's.

Also by teh_pariah is this carefree SR Superman doing a "snow angel"! Aww, isn't he sweet? When I first looked at the drawing it took me about 2 seconds to realize what he's doing, then I laughed out loud. :) We need more happy Superman like this, yes! *joins in*

To top it off, she sent me another goodie: a stunning custom Xmas card of Superman flying over New York! Inside the card was a fun Superman poem just for me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Also for the SR fanfics, the SR Superman/Lois bookmark (with a cel from the film!) and the metal SR S shield keychain, which I'm using already for my keys, hehe. ♥

Two of my fave things together = Clark and hot cocoa (I asked for this on my Xmas wishlist, thank you!), drawn by the generous moonface. Oh, that Santa hat, so cute! *ruffles his hair and hugs him* I can imagine this kind of design for a Superman cartoon. Seriously. *LOVE* WB, pay attention! ;) Thank you! ♥

taro_twist sent me this super sweet holiday card in shape of Superman's emblem, except it was in green and red, the colors of Xmas! :o) Thank you so much, what a great idea for a Superman-inspired Xmas card! Love the "3D look" done with watercolors! ♥

Lovely rizny made me Santa Superman card! How I wish Superman would visit me like this on Xmas. :) Love the giant S on his chest and the Santa hat, of course. He looks really good in a Santa hat for some reason! A perfect Santa's little helper (Okay, maybe not so little ;)). Thank you, Rizny, for putting so much thought into it! ♥

Thank you all! The gifts and cards were put carefully into one of my folders where I keep everything from drawings, letters, cards, photos and other things received from friends. One day when I'm old I'll leaf through that folder and think: "That was one good Xmas."

I'm 2 weeks behind on everyone's posts but it's nothing I can't catch up. *cackle* Have some Superman posts of my own planned, too, and then on the 17th it's my Birthday. Woe. I oh so hate getting older... Why, precioussss, why...

JLA "will be insane", rumoured to be the most expensive WB movie in history

Lots of very nice JLA news and some rumours to report today, also a few old nuggets I've collected from previous weeks and never got the chance to post. Newest stuff at the top.

JLA COSTUME DESIGN
- Producer Barrie Osborne talks briefly about Weta Costumes, George Miller's take, here's some of it:

Weta Workshop's involvement in another blockbuster movie has been unmasked - the physical effects studio has beaten Hollywood to design and make the costumes for superheroes including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

The costumes will be donned by a yet-to-be-named cast for the big-budget Hollywood movie Justice League of America, to be filmed in Sydney this year and directed by Australian George Miller of Mad Max and Happy Feet fame.

The film's Wellington-based American producer, Barrie Osborne, who produced Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings, confirmed Weta Workshop's involvement.

"They are doing all the costumes and they're doing a brilliant job," he told The Dominion Post from Sydney.

"A lot of people thought it would be too hard, that you can only make those things in Hollywood."

"George Miller has a great take on the material, so it elevates it to something that's not a comic-book movie," he said.

If you remember, the previous costume designer Marit Allen passed away not long ago. It's WETA doing the costumes now! That's at least one good piece of news (not that Allen died but that WETA is in charge now, obviously. How can you beat WETA?). I also like that last quote.

"JLA WILL BE INSANE"
- Canada.com reports about an actor rumoured for a JLA villain:

Montrealer Jay Baruchel is on the phone from Sydney, Australia, where he's in rehearsals for what is rumoured to be the most expensive Warner Bros. movie in history. Set for release in 2010, the project is shrouded in secrecy and while Baruchel can't talk too much about it, he does hint at something exciting. "The (film) I'm doing now will be a real cracker," he says in his frank, confident tone. "It will be insane."

Another good and positive quote. It seems the hype has begun! Countdown to February...

MILLER: ANCIENT GREEK GODS AS "REFERENCE POINT" FOR JLA
- NeosKosmos reports:

Dr Miller has been confirmed by Warner Bros. as the director of 'Justice League of America', a large-scale superhero epic featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and a host of others, "The Justice League superheroes are in fact related to ancient Greek gods and that will be my reference point."

The film will showcase a detailed blending of live-action, motion-capture, and CGI animation.

What a quote! Interesting. They better keep going with these because the fan response has been incredibly poor lately and everyone's moaning 5 months of waiting has been enough. You don't want to anger the fanbase too much, we're all tired by now, right? I'm thinking we'll be getting more of these little gems in the following weeks.

EVA GREEN *NOT* IN JLA
- In the past weeks actress Eva Green has been the most recent rumoured name for JLA, both for the role of Wonder Woman and the villain Talia (no one knew for sure). Here's the old report from SupermanHomepage.
However, EvaGreenWeb contacted her management and can "officially say that Eva has no interest or involvement whatsoever in "Justice League of America". She has no films to announce as yet."
Some fans are disappointed since she was the only person on the list of rumoured actors who wasn't an unknown. I've seen fans say no Eva Green in JLA makes the movie "lose the last bit of credibility it had".

JLA SCENIC ARTIST AND PROPS MAKER GETS READY FOR WORK
- Comics2film reports:

"In January, I am off to Fox Studios, Sydney to work as a set finisher, painting surfaces to look like various types of marble and fancy woods.. and with luck, may do some backdrop work

"I love this sort of thing and also will have the great fortune to be working with Eamon O'Kane and Mark Dixon again. Very talented Scenic Artists.

"The movie is the recreation of DC Comic's 'Justice League of America'... You know.. Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman et al..."

Plus some older news, Illustrator and concept artist Vivienne To is apparently on board JLA, too (her website).

RUMOUR: ADAM BRODY "EXCITED" ABOUT JLA?
- Defamer reports an Adam Brody sighting:
"My friend and I went for a casual late lunch at KING'S ROAD CAFE after our day of sample sale shopping...and a super hot blond Australian sat down next to us...and 2 minutes later Adam Brody. They were talking about a "project" they were potentially doing together and he said he was super excited/nervous about getting the part..."

Was he talking about the Flash? And the blond girl could be the actress who's playing Iris (the only confirmed role so far), aka Flash's wife in the movie. :) Were they hanging out and talking about their roles?

RUMOURED JLA ACTORS ASSEMBLE AT A HOTEL IN SYNDEY!
- On Dec 18 we got news on SuperHeroHype boards of a fan who met actor Adam Brody at an hotel in Sydney and got a picture taken with him (see link for pic!). Members wondered if the fan (who actually works at the hotel) could let them know if any other actors are currently staying at the hotel... Like maybe, oh, I don't know, Teresa Palmer, DJ Cotrona and other rumoured people? ;) And were they there because of a movie? The hotel guy says 'yes' to the movie question and 'yes' to the actors, THEY WERE ALL THERE, TOO. "Yes, at the hotel were Cotrona, Hammer, Cabrera, Teresa Palmer and Adam Brody."

I'd say Megan Gale, also rumoured for Wonder Woman, isn't on the list is because she actually lives in Sydney and wouldn't have to stay at a hotel. :)

Oh, gee, what would all these actors be doing at the same hotel in Sydney where JLA will be filming? I'm thinking rehearsals, as was suggested. But things could still change, there are rumours one major role hasn't been cast yet (possibly one of the Big Three) and people are betting either Batman or Wonder Woman. There's still the Tom Welling angle and that WB may be waiting for him to finish Smallville first before he's free of his contract and can land a new role. It was said a few days ago the show stops shooting in 2 weeks time. Is it possible they're waiting for Welling? Heck, due to the strike he no longer has to shoot the show, he's FREE! The strike did change things considerably.

He may not have been in the game months ago when the first rumours about him started circulating. But now? The situation's quite different, isn't it?

One fan asked: "Can't this guy potentially lose his job by telling us this?"

Yeah... So take it with a grain of salt. Still, it's very interesting and it could as well be true. In fact, to me it's THE most interesting rumour we've had in a long time. Face it, it's brilliant! All these actors at the same hotel! :) Can't beat that.

Also, the rumoured date for the start of filming is February 11, though one source on SuperHeroHype boards said it's actually getting under way in mid/late March? *ponder* The latter was by an unconfirmed source (but who's really CONFIRMED these days, anyway?) but he claims the JLA technical people from Sydney have been saying this for a month now.

OH LOLZ, BRANDON IS SUPERMAN AFTER ALL? No, it's Welling! No, wait...

After the news of Brandon Routh being pushed away because of the newcomer Superman in JLA, many sites picked up the story, also voicing their own opinions on the matter. The support for Routh is very vocal, "he's the best part about Superman Returns, he's doesn't deserve this", etc etc, but lots of people are relieved about Singer supposedly leaving, too. It does look like many are of the opinion the faults in SR were the writing, the editing, the film itself. Not Brandon Routh. He only did what the director told him to do. People were saying the same thing when SR came out. He's the "saving grace" of the film and whathaveyou.

SR underperforming may not be Brandon's fault, just like him possibly not being Superman again isn't his fault, but he's certainly the casualty in all this. One fan called him "collateral damage" and it's the perfect way to describe it, really. He could go down with the rest because the writers are gone, Singer could walk, WB could support the new JLA Superman instead, there will be a new cast, etc. It's just a domino effect. If Singerverse is gone, Routh is gone. It isn't fair but is movie business ever fair?

Aaaand you know what's coming next! I wondered how long it would take some site to claim right the opposite, that Brandon is IS STILL Superman, so there! Moriarity of AintItCoolNews merely reported what Variety said at first but then they added an update to the article on the same day (this was still the same day the original news broke):

Updated! Brandon Routh Is Evidently Still The Man Of Steel!

UPDATE -- I just got off the phone with a very high-ranking mole who is absolutely in a position to know what's happening with this film, and he tells me that it is "absolutely false" that Brandon Routh is out as Superman for the stand-alone series.

The only thing that has been determined is that JUSTICE LEAGUE will not feature the actors from the other films. That's it.

Right now, Routh is still Warner's choice to return if they make another stand-alone SUPERMAN film, and that's based on conversations as recently as a few weeks ago.

Don't believe this one, kids. Routh's still the Man of Steel.

Then the usual spiel of backpedaling happened and LatinoReview made a correction to their original article:

**EDIT** Other sites are breaking our balls about how I wrote this news piece, so let me correct it. (It's my first news article. Give me a break people!) The article does not state that whomever is cast as Superman will also be the same actor to carry on the stand alone Superman sequel, but we've heard otherwise. If we're wrong, you can go back to breaking said balls.

O_O Um, okay. The usual... but too late. No cookie for you. The damage is done. I was expecting this but frankly, it doesn't lessen the blow to me. They could have done this months ago if they're in it for website hits and traffic and "who's the biggest insider of them all". They could have had tons of "MOS is dead, wait no, MOS is still on" scoops, just like IESB.net ruled the JLA rumour mill for several months.

They're only doing it now because we're so close to JLA starting filming. The date's been set for months. The cast will be announced soon and many people are disappointed about the rumoured names, plus everyone wants to have some sort of scoop right now before all hell breaks loose. It's the perfect timing to scare people. Adding Brandon to the mix just sweetens the deal, makes everything "juicier".

If we've learnt anything from the JLA rumour mill debacle, it's that rival websites and insiders will fight for website hits and traffic and naturally the competition will try to steal it away. Besides, you know what else this Superman drama needs? The TOM WELLING angle. Again. Seriously, you can't have a good Superman scoop without Tom Welling!

So, to make this perfect and to wrap it up nicely, one of the old players in the game, the insider Emi of countingdown.com, turns up with her own scoop, posting it on IESB.net boards again (you need to register there to see them). She has known this all along, too, but WAIT! She knows more:

I have to apologize but I've been holding out on you guys a little. I woke up to see Latino Review is hearing mostly the same thing with only part missing so since I like being the first to announce things whenever possible, here it goes.

Latino Review backed up the Variety story about Singer leaving (which I actually announced in Dec 2006) and that Routh would not be returning to play Superman (again I have them beat by a year). They also said the actor from JLA would take over the solo Superman films.

Here's where I may know a bit more or they just aren't ready to spill it yet.

They mentioned they got the news of Routh not returning several weeks ago from WB people and promised not to be the ones to say anything. Well, I got the same news back in late November with a bit more detail than what they said. I was also told that no casting announcement was made on Nov 18th because of the writer's strike. Not because it affected the script but because it stood the chance of freeing up a certain person of interest about 2 months early from his filming commitments which it has officially done so the wait seems to have paid off. The constant "No comments" and lack of denials were due to ongoing (and still going) negotiations with Tom Welling. He supposedly has discussed this with a close friend and was told that it is already too late to avoid being typecast and he should go where the money is or risk ending up with no career after Smallville. He is apparently giving this serious thought. Does it mean he will sign?? Not necessarily but it does mean there is still a lot of hope left.

I used to trust AICN. When they know the director it is one thing, but this is the site that swore up and down moriarity's review of SR was wrong and that the kid is not supes, nor is there a piano throwing scene in the movie. He also swore that Moriarity was reading a budgeting script and things had changed drastically since then. Well, everything he said in the review was in the film.

Basically, she's saying AICN is wrong ("They were wrong before!") and LatinoReview is right. Routh is gone and Welling is in because Smallville's season is ending early due to the writer's strike and a friend encouraged him to take the role because he's typecast already anyway.

I've been reading some fan discussions on the whole Routh debacle and one fan believes WB is so daring at the mo to dump Routh because Welling was always their first choice anyway and now that they've got him for JLA and possibly the solo Superman franchise, they no longer need Routh. If it's true he was offered an amount few people would refuse (doesn't he get like over $1 million a year for each season of Smallville?), he may as well change his mind and take the role.

One fan mentioned Routh got only $30,000 for SR. That's insane, I've heard it was either $1 or $2 million! I forgot. Does anyone know? Anyhoo, it's not something that's important to me but since WB's all business (all that matters is box office) and is moving ahead with JLA that's probably worth it for very profitable merchandising/toys alone, then maybe they'd be willing to spend a little extra on Welling if that means he'll accept the role. If Welling got the role, he'd be the only really known actor in the superhero team anyway.

The damage is done. It took one short article, no, PARAGRAPH, for the fanbase to see that Brandon would be missed if WB dumped him. People have spoken. Many may be glad about a new director but Brandon they wanna keep. The only problem with this reasoning is that if Singer is gone, a new director would want to follow his own vision and cast his own Superman. Hence the domino effect: First the writers, then the director, then Brandon and the rest of the cast. Bye bye MOS, hello reboot with new Superman, whoever you may be.

Brandon Routh won't be playing Superman anymore? Fandom explodes!

Watch a big portion (it's still early!) of the Superman online community go in a frenzy when Variety blog innocently writes the following in their article about upcoming DC comics movies:

Speaking of DC Comics pics, it is highly unlikely that Bryan Singer will return to shoot the next Superman movie. (The director is finishing up Tom Cruise's Nazi film Valkyrie, and prepping The Mayor of Castro Street). The next Superman we will see on the big screen will not be Brandon Routh, but a younger Superman among a cast of youthful superheroes in The Justice League. That movie will likely not be shot, however, until after the WGA strike is resolved. Warners is so happy with Dark Knight that their fondest hope is that Nolan will return to do another Batman.

It's immediately being mis-read by some fans and you can see it coming from a mile away... Brandon not being in JLA is treated as NEWS when in fact we've known for a long time now that he wasn't even approached about the movie. But people are flipping over that one paragraph in the blog anyway.

Of course Routh isn't in JLA. The blog meant the next onscreen Superman we're going to see will be the JLA Superman since that movie is moving ahead of any possible Superman Returns sequel. That's what it really says. We already knew that. It was pretty much one of the main things being discussed in the Superman fandom since past summer. The blog does not mention the sequel at all, it mentions Bryan not returning to direct JLA which is, uh, also not news, since JLA is being directed by Miller. O_O It's trying to sell the "No Bryan" angle as news.

Bad choice of wording. Honestly. Also using words "likely" and "unlikely" which sound more like opinion and speculation, as SupermanHomepage wisely reminds us.

All of this screaming because of a weblog! Also remember Variety was the one source saying months back WB is still unsure how to proceed regarding JLA and that the strike is effecting everything. The rumour sites, on the other hand, kept saying JLA is full-steam ahead and the strike won't affect the filming schedule, according to Miller. Variety's been one of the big players in the JLA rumour mill extravaganza last year if only because they carry more weight than online websites posting rumours.

But then it gets better...

Just when you see people calming down a bit, there's another shock around the corner! The death stroke was delivered by LatinoReview which jumped on board linking to the above article and saying they've known this all along but weren't allowed to say it just yet because DC forbid them. They announce it's been confirmed Brandon will not be Superman again in ANY movie:

News is a funny thing. Sometimes when its reported the person who reported it gets the credit for breaking the news. Latinoreview has always tried to be the front runner in breaking casting news. Sometimes we miss, but most of the time we're dead on.

Kelvin knew about Brandon not being the new Superman for weeks and weeks now, but made a promise to the DC people that he wouldn't break the story. Variety has now confirmed what we've secretly known for a while and Brandon Routh will be replaced in the stand alone sequel by whomever is cast as Superman in the upcoming Justice League of America movie.

Personally, I thought Brandon did a great job. He had the look to pull off the character and the girls all went nuts for him in tighty tights (I conducted a poll). It wasn't his fault that the script was bad. Hopefully Hollywood knows what they're doing in casting someone who may be even younger than Routh in the role. I don't know what the fascination is with younger casting, especially for super heroes. But I'll take a younger actor if it means Nicolas Cage can't go anywhere near the role.

Now, granted, this isn't just any "rumour site". It was LatinoReview who first broke the news Brandon Routh was cast as Superman in SR. He had to hide away from the press for a week. They were also first to report Singer was interested in the SR project in the first place.

Many fans, especially anti-SR people, are rejoicing and seeing this news, ESPECIALLY the LatinoReview article, AS OFFICIAL.

LatinoReview does not focus on JLA like the Variety blog. It clearly states in plain words that can't be misinterpreted: they've known for a long time Brandon isn't returning. So, apparently all this time we've been waiting for WB to say something about the status of Man of Steel, or for the official announcement of JLA and the cast, or more details on the strike at least... WB's been sitting on this information about Routh. They've known all along they won't let him return. (And so did he.)

And JLA starts filming in February. How this "No Routh" news, assuming it is true, won't have some kind of effect on the fan response to JLA is beyond me. SR may have "underperformed" but Routh was liked by many, fans and critics alike. Of course, naysayers will laugh in your face and say the opposite. That he has haters, too. Well, obviously. Every actor is liked and disliked, you can't please the entire fanbase. But how this isn't going to affect the franchise SOMEHOW along the way, I've no idea... The general audience at the movies will wonder what happened to him.

I was planning on posting some JLA tidbits I've collected over the past weeks but none were nearly as juicy as this one so they'll have to wait. I've had a busy and exciting holiday, wasn't online much (sorry for no updates at routh_daily) and all the newest JLA rumours (save one) were a bore. Nothing much to report, see. It was therefore quite nice to stay out of it for a while and just enjoy the holidays and all the Christmas cards and Clark Kent drawings I've received from people on my friendslist (thank you!!! You're all getting emails from me soon!). They cheered me up so much. It even snowed on Xmas over here, everything was so perfect and lovely. Lately The Dark Knight news have been far more interesting and I was immersed in those and frankly wasn't expecting Superman related news nor any particularly interesting rumours before February anyway.

And then THIS pops up and it's ugly. I didn't see it coming. Not in this fashion, though I've had a "bad feeling" for months. Just a hunch, a strange weight in my stomach. But still nothing like this, it's still a huge shock, IF it's true.

I see lots of SR/Brandon fans flipping out but some are still calm and reassuring other people who are starting to have serious doubts about the future of Singerverse. Anti-SR folks are pretty much partying already. "It's official, Singer and Routh are gone", blah blah.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Though it pains me to choose because I honestly like Singer as a director and a person, if I HAD to choose between Singerverse/movie by Singer or Brandon Routh, I'd pick Brandon Routh in a heartbeat. I want him far more as Superman than Singer behind the helm. That choice was always obvious to me.

*SIGH* Not feeling okay today, I really need a while to digest this. Think it through. This could be the lowest point we've reached since the awful WB quote "IF we make a sequel..." so long ago. I'm still not sure whether I even believe the news or not. A huge part of me denies it with a passion because I'm a fan of Brandon's and not letting him continue is just beyond ridiculous to me.
But as others have said already, I wouldn't be surprised if it indeed turned out to be true and the past JLA rumours of a new younger Superman and possible solo Superman movies spinning off JLA all seem to point to this turn of events. I've said it before that it seriously worried me when the SR writers "left" (or were booted by WB, whatever you choose to believe) the project first because it could mean Bryan would walk next and then Routh, if only by association. It's been suggested before.

And now it LOOKS like it's happening and I'm so sick of it, so sick of WB and sick of lack of official news. It's shocking how calm I am, I don't think it has really hit me yet and a huge part of me does reject the news as false. That must be the reason I haven't screamed yet. It's the fighter in me. The loyal fan.

DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW. UGH!

EQUILIBRIUM ICONS [27]

27 icons of Equilibrium (2002), one of my fave not just Christian Bale movies but movies in general. I'm shocked this movie doesn't have a bigger fandom! Bale was amazing in the role and I iconed/animated some of my fave action scenes. *spazz* He was like Bruce Lee and Neo mixed together. *flails like Kermit*

What a character role for him! He plays a 'Cleric' (sort of like an elite super policeman) in a "perfect" futuristic world where people have to suppress their emotions. Because of it there is no war in the world. No murder. But at what a cost? In a world where showing feelings is against the law and punishable by death, Cleric John Preston finds himself reevaluating everything he ever knew...

I'm a total Cleric John Preston fangirl, yes. Oh, Preston. And the action! The "gun fu"! Bale kicking everyone's ass with seeming ease! Bale and PUPPY = FOR THE WIN! I also love the idea of Clerics with martial art skills and I dig the Bruce Lee style coats. Even the white outfit Bale wore at the end was VERY Bruce Lee. It made me so happy.

This batch is focusing on Christian Bale and Brandon Routh. There's a new Superman/Batman set (Superman Returns/Batman Begins crossover) that I've promised, I can make lots more if anyone's interested! You don't always get the chance to make crossovers like these.

I was thinking of doing a World's Finest music video, too (the scenes on the animated icons gave me lots of ideas). I see now that it's possible. Probably with some majestic movie soundtrack song. I'd prefer instrumental music in this case.

There were originally tons more icons icons but I had to trim the number down, I'll be posting the rest next time (comics, Tintin, other Christian Bale movies, etc). :) I did move the Equilibrium set over here.

JLA movie on schedule, Nolan on JLA, another Superman actor, etc.

First, before I go on I'd just like to say a few words about my posts on JLA. I'm not posting these daily anymore as I think putting all the latest rumours into one post is easier and not as aggravating to the readers. The news may be a biiit outdated by the time I post them (a few days tops) but they're at least coming in steadily. :)

I've heard some of these news before the major websites reported on them... *chuckle* Made me realize I could run a very up-to-date Superman news journal if I wanted but as SupermanHomepage said many times over, it's a full-time job and you'd need to sacrifice a lot more time if you wanted to beat everyone to the news. Since this isn't a competition, I'm content with reporting a couple of days or so after the major websites already posted the news. :)

That and I also think daily or almost daily news on JLA rumours would tick people off after a while. We're all very tired of them by now, even if some do crack me up still (like Scott Porter as Superman, see more below) and they can be very fun in all their cracktastic glory. With 2 months left till JLA movie starts production, I'll be posting the news in chunks like this unless there's something especially juicy I need to report on right away. Some rumours are so weird they really don't deserve their own post anyway.

On we go then! The latest I've heard, with newest stuff at the bottom:

X-MEN ACTOR PLAYING JLA SUPERMAN?
- The insider Emi of CountingDown.net (she's posting on IESB.net boards sometimes which I got this info from but you need to sign up to view them now) overheard X-Men actor Daniel Cudmore was in talks for JLA Superman. She reminds us: "I'm saying this is purely a rumor as it came from a casting agency as a through the grapevine / overheard a conversation sort of thing." About Cudmore, who played Colossus in Bryan Singer's X2 (and X-men 3), she says: "I've been told Daniel Cudmore auditioned for Superman and was well liked. Given the ages of the other cast members and what it seems like Miller is going for, he could fit in the role easily. At 6' 6 and pretty built up, he'd be better than anyone rumored so far."

You can hear a clip of his acting on YouTube here. Look for the tall cop. ;) His voice is quite nice!

Interestingly, Daniel Cudmore auditioned for Superman in Superman Returns. One time it was even rumoured he got the part but back then rumours were just as crazy as they are now about JLA and everyone and their grandpa apparently auditioned for Superman.

A fan was saying Cudmore's image as Colossus is too well-known, he shouldn't play Superman now. Others are shaking their heads, pointing out the only people who really know about Colossus are fans like us. His X-men role shouldn't prevent him from getting hired as another comics character! I agree. He doesn't look like Superman to me but it's crazy to ignore him (for any role) just because he starred in a Singer movie as another comic book character.

A bit later the insider Emi posts an update on Cudmore: "I decided to contact his reps and this is what they said... "Sorry, but right now we cannot comment on any current auditions or negotiations regarding our client."

Does it mean anything?? Certainly not, but it is interesting. They did tell me some details on his physique though. He stands 6' 8" and weighs in at 265lbs."

So, he's even 2 inches taller than previously reported! o.o Would Superman need to be that tall? Well, yes, if Hammer was Batman. *laugh* Oh dear.

ADAM BRODY AS THE FLASH?
- Finally a big newspaper reporting on JLA! LA Times says Adam Brody has closed negotiations to play the Flash.

The studio is expected to hold off on an announcement until all the roles are cast and a splashy news conference can herald the return of the beloved series. "Justice League of America" is one of Warner Bros.' highest-priority films right now, with an anticipated 2009 release.

They also mention Scott Porter and Megan Gale are "rumoured" for Superman and Wonder Woman. But then again, they also said earlier Scott Porter is Superman and that isn't true (see below). That much about counting on big newspapers to report credible or only official stuff. They didn't really say Brody was confirmed so at least they're being careful with their words!

- This is just a teeny weeny tidbit about someone who auditioned. Australian actor Woody Naismith comments in a friends's MySpace about some of his latest auditions/work: "[I have] a few things been short listed for George Millers new film.. Justice League... not getting to excited though... you know how it is... " He's 28 and is 6'4" tall. Later in another MySpace he comments: "Hey Kane, hope u gewd! Sydney bit quiet.. Still waiting to hear back from Justice League..next few weeks they say... Any waves?"
Interesting! "Next few weeks", eh? SuperHeroHype boards have 2 pics of him, if anyone's interested.

You can see how desperate people are for JLA casting news when they end up looking at MYSPACE for information. I mean, SERIOUSLY. Jesus. This better end soon.

NEW WARNER BROTHERS PRESIDENT
Speaking of "next few weeks", I think they'll announce the cast shortly before they actually start filming in February. Fans have been speculating about the date for a long time. It's odd WB hasn't said anything for so long and one fan says it probably won't happen until after WB Executive Vice President Jeff Robinov gets his promotion (he'll be President) in January. The press conference could easily happen then with him "at the helm", revealing all the JLA cast at once.

I should mention execs Jeff Robinov and Dan Lin are reportedly the ones going *FOR* JLA while President & Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn (we last heard about him regarding Brandon Routh's wedding but it was later reported Horn in fact did not attend) spoke nicely about Superman Returns when it didn't do as well as expected at the BO. Horn admitted they expected more but that the movie did what it was supposed to do (introduce the characters, etc).

Lin, on the other hand, we've heard is the one who's been rooting for JLA from the beginning. There have also been whispers Lin disliked SR but I don't remember exactly what's been said and if indeed it was anything official or just insider stuff. Anti-SR folks often use Robinov and Lin as some of the reasons Man of Steel isn't happening while pro-SR people say WB people's thoughts on SR were overwhelmingly positive, basically pro-SR and sequel, and that most of the execs are FOR the sequel.
People are fighting all the time about this, who supposedly said what, who supposedly thinks this and that... We honestly don't KNOW anything for sure, we only have a few short quotes from Horn that WB was pleased with SR but that they expected it to make $100 mil more domestic.

Here's an old article from 2004 explaining what the job entails. "While Horn retains the ultimate greenlight for all Warner Bros. films, Robinov is responsible for overseeing every aspect of the development, creative production and acquisition of all feature films for Warner Bros. Pictures." The article has nothing but good things to say about Robinov.

In a nice interview from 2005 Robinov says:

"I think people are really going to like "Superman Returns." I have to give Alan credit. He suffered a lot of negative publicity. When I met with Bryan Singer and he said, 'This is what the movie is,' I had the same feeling I had with Chris Nolan. I went down to Alan within days of McG leaving the movie. It would have been easy for him to say, 'Let's not start again, let's wait a beat, and come back to this.' He jumped right in and heard Bryan's take and embraced it."

Interesting. This was before SR came out, of course. But the bottom line is, both Robinov and Horn were behind Singer and SR and then SR didn't bring in the expected numbers. The question is what Robinov will do about it now.

More on WB. NY Times reported a year ago about WB's profits, flops, etc. Great article. SR is mentioned as well and Robinov and Horn said in regards to the poorer BO of their movies that year:

"If Superman had done twice what it did, the whole summer would have looked different," said Mr. Robinov. "It's as much about perception as reality. Even with the failure of a movie like 'Poseidon,' we've had much smaller movies we've lost as much on."

Mr. Horn agreed. "I've seen movies that cost $15 million lose as much as $20 million," he said. "But when event movies don't perform well, it is very high profile."

Back to current news/rumours:

TERESA PALMER IS WONDER WOMAN?
- Another website, this time Comics2Film, claims they know who plays Wonder Woman. Unlike recent rumours indicating Megan Gale, Comics2Film mentioned another earlier contender for the role, Teresa Palmer. They say The Boomerang Newsletter, published by Australians In Film, reported this, and that "recent rumors deemed credible have placed the actress in the role of Talia al Ghul."

"Deemed credible" means nothing anymore, seriously. The whole JLA casting debacle has been one big rumourfest of whack. You don't know who's right and who's wrong anymore.

CHRIS NOLAN ABOUT JLA
- People worrying Chris Nolan will walk away from Batman 3 because Miller is doing another version of Batman at the same time, can breathe easily. IGN.com reports:

IGN: Are you concerned at all about the Justice League of America movie and of a new Batman being introduced to audiences while your franchise is still going?

Nolan: Not really. To be perfectly honest, it's not really something I've thought about much. I really am just immersed in making this movie. Whatever will happen will happen, and we're just working very hard to make this movie the best it can be.

Of course there are people saying he's just saying this because it would be foolish to speak negatively about another WB movie while he's still doing Batman and working for WB. People will doubt him no matter what he says. Others suggest we should just "take him at his word and move on".
The reason this is interesting: It was reported before Nolan and Christian Bale would have liked JLA to happen after the current Batman trilogy is over. But both Bale's and Nolan's words are often so exaggerated in fan discussions that you'd think the two men were screaming in rage JLA is happening! "Bale/Nolan is pissed off!", "JLA shouldn't be happening, you'll turn Nolan away from Batman! Just look what they're doing, those idiots!", etc etc.

So there goes that crutch. But I see some fans will keep using it in their defense as to why JLA shouldn't be happening. "Because Nolan/Bale said so."

Well, Nolan's quote reminds me of Singer's and the SR writers' when they said months and months ago at the Saturn Awards they're "living in a bubble" and don't hear the latest buzz on other movies like JLA. A nice way to dodge the issue, a polite way to say: "I don't know anything, don't ask." Nolan was asked about it directly, he had to say something but I doubt, too, he'd have been very negative in any case. It's safest to say he's not thinking about it/not letting it bother him. Same thing Singer did.

JLA DIRECTOR SAYS THE MOVIE IS ON SCHEDULE
Sydney Morning Herald reports JLA director George Miller (here's a very recent pic of him) said the movie wasn't affected by the recent writers strike in the U.S. and is expected to start shooting in the new year. Nothing new there but it should put people's minds to rest after all the recent grumblings the movie won't get made after all.

JLA fans are hoping the movie will be successful. One fan says he can't see it failing. "Maybe critically, but not financially." I think this is what's going to happen. People, especially kids and young teens, will EAT IT UP.

SCOTT PORTER TALKS ABOUT JLA
- And once again, Scott Porter ISN'T SUPERMAN, no matter what LA Times claimed before. His name keeps popping up. Luckily, he has been interviewed in a vid on YouTube and he addresses the issue in a very charming way. :) He even mentions the word "fandom" (*hugs him*) and the Superman comic a fan gave him to sign at the con (the fan must be flipping out in excitement, he's almost famous for that comic thing now *laugh*). It's so fun hearing Scott talk about it. Do watch the vid. He's like "Oh man, not again" when JLA is mentioned, just look at his tired face. "Dude, you're Superman. It's on the internet, it's everywhere, you're Superman."
Told you he's a nice guy! :) Damn, just when I was warming up to him. *laugh* He mentions his MySpace and goes: "Be my friend!" Aww. ♥

More faves: "And the internet never lies". Hahahaha. Awesome. "Poor Brandon Routh, he never stood a chance. I thought he was fantastic, he got ripped to shreds."

THE DARK KNIGHT first teaser poster! Thoughts on Man of Steel campaign.

Finally, The Dark Knight viral campaign gives the fans (after a lot of riddle solving and searching for clues on their part) the first teaser trailer as a reward.

The tagline on the poster won't be new to you if you've been following the campaign. For the first teaser poster the image is pretty neat but the fans who've been immersed in this campaign from the beginning are feeling a bit let down. You can't expect a lot from the first teaser, really! People were expecting the trailer but that's coming on the 14th.

It's not spoilerish IMO but I'm putting it under the cut anyway.

Fans were given clues (even by the Joker himself!) to solve mysteries via several websites for many weeks now. Mysterious messages that needed scrambling and decoding, Gotham police evidence photos of crimes, etc. If they solved the riddles Joker has presented them, he'll throw them a bone, like a pic from the movie, a new game that leads to a new clue, etc. It's a great way to keep fans busy (and guessing!), the movie's still far away but it's been an exciting ride. The fans will moan, though, if the reward isn't all that great or just another game... which means another 2 weeks or waiting or so. People want something nice in return for all the work they've been doing! :)

And they will solve stuff very quickly, some fans are insanely clever. You think it'll take days to get to the end of the mystery but some genius will pop up on the boards and get it done in a couple of hours. Amazing. The games are getting more sophisticated, too.

It's just plain fun. I was cracking up when fans were searching for the answer to one particular game and then WB released a website with the title "WeAreTheAnswer". It had more clues. *laugh*

One game was to open a police safe which contained some stuff belonging to the Joker. He asked the fans to get it for him, to get inside the safe and "think outside the box". To prove themselves to him. It was awesome, about 1500 people were in the Dark Knight section on the SuperHeroHype boards at the time, trying to crack the damn code! O_O It was fascinating to watch them getting closer and closer to the solution... It was in the middle of the night for me, too, haha. I was expecting Batman to lurk in the shadows somewhere in the dark corners of my room. Very exciting stuff.

It reminded me of the time the first Superman Returns teaser trailer was revealed online and fans today are saying 1000 people were on BlueTights forums that very moment. Waiting, checking their watches. It was very hyped up but this detailed, well thought out Batman campaign takes the cake IMO. This wasn't even for a teaser trailer and still fans rushed to the forums to discuss the latest clue. We didn't know what we'll be getting but everyone was excited and hopeful. Cue 2 hours of riddle-solving and constant refreshing of the page to read new posts. *laugh* Awesomeness. The forum reallyyyyy slowed down because of all the visitors.

Then someone finally started thinking "outside the box" and set their computer clock to 7 PM, the time something was supposed to happen (as given by the clues). Aaand the safe really opened (no digit combination was correct, so much for 2 hours of doing Math LOL!) and we got more police evidence files that lead to a new game.

That day the first Joker mag cover was revealed, too. The new Joker's bloody brilliant. Me loooooves him.

Speaking of the great campaign, I hope they think of something similar for Superman fans when/if the sequel's coming! Perhaps clues as to who's the new villain? Or villains? It'll have to be more than one game, perhaps clues like "Where is Lex Luthor now?" or "Help Superman recover the crystals!" Perhaps via a star/planet chart or something like that, since they're on New Krypton floating in space, right? I know a deleted scene said it has drifted close to Jupiter by now or something like that but maybe it mysteriously "vanished" from space? Got destroyed by the new villain? There's so much stuff you can do here. Have fans participate in it.

Last time we got Bryan Singer's video journals. If they'll be having a viral campaign at all, they'll have to outdo themselves next time around, don't you think? Do something new. Something different. Get fans excited again, especially all those who've been disappointed by the first movie. Maybe the sequel really needs the hype because the general response to SR wasn't as hugely positive as they were hoping?

If it were me, I'd release cool scrambled Daily Planet newspaper reports on Superman and by unscrambling them or cracking the code, the fans would get the real report that reveals something interesting about the movie's storyline. Little nuggets here and there, getting juicier and juicier the closer we are to the official posters and the premiere and all that. Perhaps we could be getting newspaper headlines, inspired by "WHERE HAS HE GONE?" from the last movie and such. Nothing hugely spoilerish but enough to tease the fans and let them speculate. Maybe clues of a surprise star/villain. Or clues of some threat, something Superman doesn't see coming but the fans are!

Heck, even a pic of Clark's new tie would be awesome. Anything. *sporfle*

Have fans solve a riddle that gives them a page or two from the script/draft. Be like JK Rowling and her official site, yes! *laugh* She's done some great things on her website before ("What's behind the locked door?"). She'd hide nice little gems and treats all over the place for fans to collect. I'd do something similar with Man of Steel. It'll be a looong wait. Have fans something to do in the meantime.

JLA costume designer dies, new supposed actor for Batman, etc.

Here are some JLA movie nuggets I've collected, I'll write this quickly because I'm busy at the moment:

- Variety reports the costume designer on JLA movie Marit Allen has died! Oh dear. She was 66. Is this another bad omen for the project, next to the writer's strike? Fans are wondering whether the costumes for the movie have been completed and whether the team will keep them in the movie as a dedication to her.

- MovieHole "announces" Wonder Woman, Batman and Iris Allen (wife of Flash) actors. This hasn't been confirmed, of course. The usual.

Wonder Woman = Megan Gale
Iris Allen = Zoe Kazan

Megan Gale's name has been popping up forever now and Hammer has been mentioned before, too. I've seen people warming up to him which was a nice change from the usual moaning. He may be just 21 years old but he has a veeeery deep voice and is 6'5'' (195 cm) tall!!
This SHH post has some nice screencaps of his appearance in an episode on Desperate Housewives. He's quite an unknown.
There's also a link to a vid so you can see his acting (but the vid only works for US residents). I've found it on Youtube here. :) The guy next to him (Mike) is 6'0'' and Hammer is towering over him! And here's the first part of his appearance.

Some fans have been saying if he was cast, the Superman actor would have to be even taller! Hence some suggestions he should just play Superman. :) A couple of comments: "A younger looking Superman wouldn't be as bad since he basically ages far more slowly than the other Leaguers." and "THAT VOICE, THE HEIGHT, THAT CHIN, THE FACE. ALL POINTS TO SUPERMAN. imo"

I'd agree a deep voice helps with the supposed age of the character a lot. The voice makes him appear older. Plus, he's HUGE and is long-fingered. Hey, I like that about Routh so... IMO he also looks older than he is already anyway.

Well, so much for a "younger cast". Megan Gale is 31, Common (rumoured for Green Lantern) is 35, Adam Brody (rumoured for Flash) is 27. And now Hammer is 21! He's the only one sticking out next to DJ Cotrona that was rumoured as both Superman and Batman before.

- MovieHole also reported Megan Gale was spotted training. Was it for her role of Wonder Woman? It says she doesn't usually work out as often as lately. Hmmm, yeah, a model in a gym, how astonishing! ;) But hey, it could be all connected, you never know.

- Sanchez of IESB.net posted his opinion as to why Megan Gale is wrong for Wonder Woman. It's because young girls looking up to WW will want to find out more about their heroine and the first images that pop up online when you Google Megan Gale are nudes.
(Though this same argument was posted weeks before by someone else on the IESB boards. It's been talked about before but Sanchez hasn't posted much on JLA lately, maybe this will do for now? At least it isn't another rumour.)

I haven't seen any other male fans complaining about this matter but then again, I think many of the JLA fanboys aren't fathers of daughters. Sanchez is.

Holiday wishlist

I did this wishlist thingy on lj a few years ago and it's good to see people are still having fun with it year after year. :o) Many on my friendslist have posted their own wishlists for the holidays so here's mine!

RULES:

Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

* If you wish for real life things (not stories or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Since this is a Superman related journal, quite a few of my wishes are Superman and fandom related. Oh, how predictable of me. :) I didn't include any big wishes like "I want a bigger tv! Here's the link to the online store!" :D because those are too grand and too expensive and I can't imagine anyone actually picking anything like that on the list. Those are better reserved for real-life (or more like fantasy land, haha).

MY 10 WISHES:

1) Snail mail/postcards of your city or country/Xmas cards.
I love getting mail from all over the world and I always keep all the things I receive in a special box. :) My family isn't huge and Xmas cards don't exactly arrive in droves. To me holiday snail mail from people living in other countries is the most fun and special. I can imagine myself holding on to it forever and ever. I'll probably be looking over them as an old grandma LOLZ, still enjoying them after so many years. They're just lovely things to keep, you know? Good memories.

2) Superman/Clark Kent related fanfic, especially set in the Superman Returns universe. Yay!
For the holidays something sweet and fluffy would be really nice (Clark Kent wearing a winter coat, yes, me likey ♥) but I'm not picky.

3) Clark Kent related fanart.
Draw me some Clark Kent and I'll love you forever! It doesn't have to be X-masy, anything with Clark would be great.

4) Superman Returns and Brandon Routh magazine pics, bookmarks, stickers, pins, etc. Anything SR related.
It's very hard to find merchandise over here, sadly. ;_; We mostly get plastic action figures for kids and since it's long past the movie, all the stuff's sold out by now.

5) Chocolate praline and other candy/sweets from your country!
*excessive drooling* Mmm, praline. A dream come true if you're a chocoholic like me. A wonderful feast for meh taste buds. Any praline is fine! Perhaps your fave? Which ones do you like best? As for sweets, pick anything you like. I'm a big sweet-tooth, I'd eat anything LOLZ.

6) Superman Celebration wristband!
Or any other Superman wristband of this style, really. Brandon Routh wears them, too (not Superman related but they're in this style). :)

7) Superman Returns pewter keyring!
I'd love to have one for my cellphone or house keys.

8) Superman Returns mug! I'm looking for the heat vision one especially, like this and this. Here it is on ebay UK. But any other SR mug is fine, too. I love the 3D look of the new shield. :)

9) Superman Returns sequel gets made!
Pretty please, Santa? *huge, misty Pikachu eyes* *trembles with excitement*

10) People in the Superman fandom stop quarreling over who's the best Superman for future movies, which movie/tv ep/comic/etc sucked most, what was the worst thing about SR, etc. JUST BE HAPPY WE EVEN HAVE SUPERMAN. He wouldn't want you fighting like this.

Action Comics #10 - Superman goes undercover!

In March 1939 issue of Action Comics #10 Superman goes undercover to write an exposé on the lousy conditions at the Coreytown chain gang. The prisoners there are physically abused, are nearly starving and have to live "like kettle". Because the governor won't do anything about it, Clark Kent gets himself arrested to get into the prison.

He may be there under a new fake name (probably?) but not only is he wearing no disguise to distinguish himself from Superman whatsoever (well, besides walking about bare-chested for a good length of the story *laugh*), he's also extremely cocky and confident and egging on the cruel superintendent, mocking him all the time. O_O He WANTS to get punished and beaten. There are things he does and says in this comic that would be out-of-character today. And I've no idea how come no one sees he's actually Superman! Their personalities are so alike. Maybe because Superman wasn't that well-known yet at the time?

In the story he is loathed by the Daily Planet staff because they believe he betrayed the trust of an escaped prisoner who asked him for help. Lois calls Clark a "loathsome wretch". But they're all wrong! Clark has a plan!

In order to write the perfect exposé, Mr Kent must go undercover... Oh yeah, he's also wearing plaid. *chuckle* Full story underneath the cut.

Btw, it was said right after the ETOnline article was posted that Kate Bosworth and WB exec Alan Horn in fact did not attend the wedding for some reason. This was reported by People magazine here.

I'm still bummed Horn wasn't there, to be honest. SIGH. Horn attending wouldn't have meant the sequel is on track but it would have been nice, you know? Same with Kate, I'm sad she couldn't make it.
SupermanHomepage is still reporting what ETOnline was saying about the wedding. Iris of BrandonRouth.com confirmed Kate and Horn weren't there, so the info doesn't match up. Some SR fans on forums still think Horn was present and they continue posting about it like it means something.

Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford's romantic wedding!

The Man of Steel is officially off the market! 'Superman Returns' star BRANDON ROUTH married longtime girlfriend, actress COURTNEY FORD, on Saturday at JON and MINDY PETERS' 3000-acre El Capitan Ranch, just outside of Santa Barbara, CA.

It was a very exclusive, intimate wedding. The 150 guests were made up of friends and family, as well as KATE BOSWORTH, Warner Bros. President and COO ALAN F. HORN and director BRYAN SINGER.

The groom was escorted down the aisle by his parents. The bride glowed in a white VERA WANG gown with silver trim. She was preceded down the aisle by three bridesmaids dressed in rose-red strapless gowns.

The couple wrote their own vows, which they recited, overlooking the ocean. Thousands of red roses decorated the outdoor ceremony, whose theme was country chic.

"The Insider"'s CHERYL WOODCOCK spoke to Mindy Peters, who revealed that she and Jon did about a $1 million ranch overhaul for Brandon's big day, including adding a man-made lake, rock walls and waterfalls, as well as fountains that will shoot water on cue when Routh gets the word, "You may now kiss the bride." There were also fireworks to mark the union.

California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER closed the airspace above the ranch to ensure the couple their privacy for the occasion.

A large white tent was erected for the reception, which continued the country chic theme with silk brown tablecloths, bamboo chairs, candles and red rose petals on each table. Even the six-tier vanilla cake had red roses on the top. The reception was catered by Frida of Beverly Hills. Routh showed his romantic side by serenading his bride. Another big hit of the night was a novely item -- the couple had a donut machine dispensing hot, delicious confections.

Routh and Ford became engaged in August, 2006, and have been dating for more than four years. They met while Routh was bartending at the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley for Ford's mom's wedding reception, so, in honor of how they met, Routh and his groomsmen went bowling the night before the wedding.

He sang for her. *choke* I knew it! *content sigh* SO HAPPY! I'm such a hopeless romantic but I went "Awww" when I read that and grinned like an idiot.

Congrats, Brandon and Courtney! ♥ May you be happy together till the rest of your lives.

I wasn't thinking about the wedding too much yesterday, it was a very calm and quiet day for me. I rewatched two Christian Bale movies (Equilibrium, I watch it at least once a month, and The Machinist) and some of my fave Superman Returns scenes to celebrate. :) Lots of Clark scenes because I love my Clark.

I thought it would hit me harder but it didn't. *is proud of herself* :) Let's wait for those lovely wedding photos, it sounds like they had a beautiful wedding. An "intimate wedding" IMO sounds a lot like Brandon. Love it. And yay, Bryan and Kate were there, too! And the prez of WARNERS. *chuckle* *nudge nudge* Hear that? Oh man, I can see some pro-Man of Steel fans saying this is proof the SR sequel is gonna get made.* I wouldn't go that far but it's indeed nice Horn was there. Singer AND Horn at an event at the same time. Oh noez, not another "MOS: Yay or Nay?" argument. ;)

AND TAH WINNAR: Donut machine! Ingenious, it really is. (Insert Homer Simpson joke here.) Just as I thought it wasn't possible to love this guy even more.

* I say this because Singer's trailer for Valkyrie began with "By the director of... X-men, SUPERMAN RETURNS and The Usual Suspects" and some SR fans were jumping of joy this means WB hasn't lost faith in Singer. As was pointed out by someone, the movie wasn't made by WB so there's no connection to how SR's popularity was perceived by WB execs. It just meant Singer is "accomplished". Agreed. I'd like a sequel as much as any other SR fan but this was no proof. I'd rather see Valkyrie get an Oscar nomination, that would encourage WB a lot more, don't you think?

I'll cover some fan reactions and some news in this entry.

NO JLA CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT DESPITE RUMOURS
Nothing particularly interesting to report these days regarding the JLA casting development. Moviehole.net posted another rumour a couple or so days ago that the cast will be announced that very day and IESB.net went with the same story but unsurprisingly, nothing came to pass. I didn't want to post another "AN ANNOUNCEMENT IS COMING!" rumour 3 days in a row, so I saved it for today. Though it would have been hilarious if the one rumour I didn't post about actually came true!

Thanksgiving came and went and still no announcement. From what I could gather, the fan reactions haven't changed. If anything, they're more intense than before. Fans are getting angrier by the day and many do agree it's rumour/news sites like IESB, MovieHole and AintItCoolNews that keep adding fuel to the fire. Some are now pointing fingers at these sites instead of WB (and their rumoured "misinformation campaign") for a change. "This isn't WB's fault, if it weren't for sites like IESB and others, we wouldn't have been so pissed off!"
It's mostly the casting announcement that people are angry about, not the other rumours we've been getting via these sites (JLA storyline, who auditioned for what, etc). No one was complaining about IESB when they were reporting casting rumours. Now everyone's complaining because fans aren't getting what they want. Hypocritical much?

Sooo... Yes, I'd say a slight, slight shift has happened in fandom but IMO people will run back to Sanchez of IESB the moment he reports something interesting again. They will listen to him if he says something they want to hear.

Sanchez is doing something about it. For once, he didn't post these "Announcement is coming tomorrow" rumours on the main site but on his boards because he couldn't confirm the rumours will his usual sources and the rumours didn't warrant front page news. To give him some credit, the rumours regarding announcements were seldom touted on the site, he merely mentioned dates as a possibility when people on the boards kept asking him about them for like the 100th time. They'd get in a hissy fit if he didn't reply right away.
It looks like you have to make an account on the boards now to read the posts. He's taking some precautions, all the fans moaning probably forced him to make some changes to the site. It was a good call IMO.

At this point people are just whining because there's nothing new to whine about. Sanchez is as good a target as any.

I'm on the fence about this. On one hand I see the need for rumours about a project that's prolonging the official announcement because they want to remain in "prep" for as long as possible, delaying greenlighting the project until it's ready to shoot. Meaning the movie's "in production" unofficially for a longer time than usual and nothing's set in stone. WB's being extra cautious. Since there are no news coming from WB, rumours are all we've got. No wonder fans are joking amongst themselves we'll be getting the casting list the day the film starts shooting and not a day before! *laugh*

On the other hand, as interesting as rumours can be and as much buzz they can create, they're also getting pretty old after months of waiting for something official. After a while you want to hear something concrete to put your mind at ease.

You know what? SPONGEBOB SHOULD BE MAKING THE CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT. *points at icon* At least he'd do it in style.

SUPERMANUEL AND BATBOY!
As posted in an earlier entry, a silly rumour surfaced about a 21 year-old actor for Batman and an unknown "of Hispanic/Latino descent" for Superman. On one fan forum they're by now a bit of a joke, especially the Hispanic Superman. One fanboy mentioned it looks like we won't be getting SUPERMAN in this movie. More like Supermanuel. Bwah! Cue lots of cackling. The word Superhombre was also thrown around. Another fan joked we'll be having Batboy instead of Batman! :)))

JLA DELAYED? FANS ARE WORRIED.
Another shift (we'll see how long it lasts) happened when several sites picked up the story about the writers strike postponing JLA because it has an unfinished script. I've reported about this already, the story made a few rounds and is being treated as "news" even though the article's re-hashing old news written by other sites, especially Variety's article from weeks ago. The point is that all the rumour sites are saying JLA is going forward as planned and Variety was the only source that reported right the opposite. It said "WB was unsure how to proceed" and things like that.
This is old news but it was making rounds again as if to remind us a lot of things could go wrong with this project.

The "reminder" caused a few fans to start doubting JLA will ever get made, especially after all these rumours that didn't come true. Some who haven't been particularly keen on the idea of a JLA movie from the beginning are commenting the longer we don't get any official casting announcement, the more chances there are the movie will get delayed. We all knew JLA would be extremely difficult to cast... Now some are hoping it'll be too difficult.

A lot of the rumoured cast so far (just people who auditioned) aren't exactly fan favourites. A fan on SuperHeroHype forums comments:
"This JL film is reminding me so much of Superman Returns when it comes to developmental buzz. The cast for Singer film was underwhelming and there was a heavy split of fans between the casting of Routh.
The samething is happening here and it seems Miller is going the exact opposite route with casting then he should be going. He should be looking for solid B grade actors if not A grade.....but he will be going the C and D grade route with babyfaced unknown TV actors. Utterly disappointing..."

TRANSFORMERS WRITERS WRITING 'SUPERMAN RETURNS' SEQUEL?
Another rumour that I've posted about previously, in fact it was just a little tidbit thrown out by Iris of BrandonRouth.com concerning "Man of Steel". She said Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci "seem to be interested" in writing the sequel, now that the doors are open for new writers to come on board. Fans agree this rumour should be taken with a grain of salt like other rumours and indeed it didn't make a splash on any website besides a couple of forums. The thing is, anyone could be writing the script and Kurtzman and Orci are just one of several teams that I'm sure we'll be hearing about in the future in connection with MOS.

The rumour was taken as such but the fan response was positive for the most part. Fans are hungry for more action in the sequel and action's certainly something Transformers delivered.
Kurtzman and Orci are also in negotiations to write Transformers 2. It was reported they could be getting $5 - $7 million for the screenplay. They've been friends since childhood and have co-written stuff for Xena: Warrior Princess, Alias, and movies The Island and Mission: Impossible 3.

BRANDON ROUTH MARRYING!
Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford are getting married tomorrow, Nov 24! Be brave, fangirls! :) The wedding pics will be featured in INStyle magazine. CONGRATS! I think I'll be posting a huge Brandon picspam tomorrow to celebrate. :o)

Rumoured cast list for JLA, Scott Porter speaks about auditions, + more

Several rumours and actual news today regarding JLA. The newest are at the bottom.

JLA 90 MINUTES LONG?
This via SupermanHomepage: The Australian Film Commission has officially posted notice for the JLA movie (official title "Justice League of America", not just "Justice League"):

Production Company: Kennedy Miller Mitchell
Producers: Doug Mitchell, Barrie Osborne
Director: George Miller
Writers: Kieran Mulroney, Michele Mulroney
Duration: 90 min
Synopsis: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and other superheroes unite to fight against evil forces.
Status: Pre-Production

90 MINUTES!! Lots of grumbling in the SupermanHomepage comments already. A fan comment: "No wonder there isn't a threat to Bale or Routh. New Supes and Bats won't be on screen long enough to threaten intellect let alone a casting coup on "Man of Steel"."

Though I agree with the storyline they're supposedly going with (OMACs, Tower of Babel), it's hard to stretch it over 90 minutes (which includes end credits as someone has pointed out already, which means the movie will be ever shorter. 86 minutes, maybe? Yikes.) Some disagree, saying 90 minutes isn't enough at all ("90 minutes is simply insufficient for a film that should be of epic proportions"), others proclaim it's fine, "This isn't the "Godfather" you know."

Compare this to the 2 and a half hours of Superman Returns. But maybe the runtime will change?

JLA HAS NO SCRIPT?
The Superman fandom was in a frenzy when HollyWood Reporter posted an innocent enough article about the current issue of the writers' strike delaying movies in Hollywood. Guess which movie was also mentioned?

At Warner Bros., "Justice League of America" finds itself without a shooting script and has options expiring on potential actors who recently were screen tested. As a result, it might have to postpone production.

This isn't exactly news, we knew months before Miller can work with the script/ideas he already has, whether they're 100% finished or not. It was reported an unfinished script isn't a problem. They've got material to work with.

The Countingdowm.com insider Emi (the usual suspects again, it's either her or IESB) raises an eyebrow at the "OMG NO SCRIPT" claim right away:

1. Justice League DOES have a shooting script. It has for quite some time. WB has also hired writers as "Production Consultants" to assist with any tweaks needed during filming, but most will be handled by Miller himself. Not to mention, as a member of of WGA East and after talking to some of the higher-ups as well as friends on the other side, the scheduled round of negotiations after Thanksgiving may very well bring a quick end to the strike.

2. The Hollywood Reporter is re-hashing old news from several articles into one, making it seem like they just got new scoops.

3. D.J. Cotrona was up for Batman, NOT for Superman. Was he cast?? Don't know.

4. The deadline was Nov 18th for the actors/actresses to hear if they got the part. The cast had already been chosen, but notifications had to be made by yesterday. The "official" announcement should be made (or leak out) as early as this afternoon.

By the way, #4 info came directly from Scott Porter at Wizard World Texas.

Yes, this is all old news but it had to be said because HollyWood Reporter just jumped on the bandwagon and reused old, outdated stories and rumours to write their article. Miller can work with the script he has.

SCOTT PORTER IS NOT SUPERMAN!
As for #4, the "Scott Porter is Superman" rumour was debunked on Saturday by Porter himself at the convention when he signed that Superman comic I posted about. SupermanHomepage got the same news but via a different source that interviewed Porter about JLA and his audition. And a very nice and informative interview it is!

Q: So what can you say about these reports about you being cast as Superman in Justice League?

Porter: I haven't been contacted. When I tested, I tested for the role of The Flash, which I lost to Adam Brody. At this point, Superman is purely rumor and speculation as far as I'm concerned, although I do want to buy a Superman shirt today and wear it to mess with people.

Q: You auditioned for The Flash?

Porter: What happened with George Miller (Justice League's director), there were about 32 of us, and he just said, "We're having a test." I don't know if he had a specific role until we got there. None of us knew the specific role until we got there. The Flash was written next to my name when I was there, so that's what I was under the assumption I auditioning for, although they did say that it was kind of a blanket test. There was one scene and everybody did the same scene, so we could have been auditioning for any role.

Q: If this was true, you'd probably hear by tomorrow (Monday)?

Porter: If this is true, I'd probably be in Mexico tomorrow wondering how I got here. The extent of the options, everybody had to sign a test deal, a holding contract, and they have an exclusive option on a lot of us. And they've asked to extend them, so I'm expecting the actual official announcement to come out sometime this week, but you can't really hold me to that because I'm not Warner Bros. Who knows when they're going to make the announcement?

NEWS SOON?
A commenter on IESB boards explained we'll be hearing more JLA news now that we're past the 18th. Supposedly the Nondisclosure Agreement (NDA) the actors were under expired yesterday. They're allowed to talk a bit more about the movie and the latest rumour has it (as I posted previously) an official casting announcement is coming this week. The cast is chosen/"locked" (as IESB reported) and the contracts are signed. I think this is where the actual news begin. Let's hope we get some soon!

Not everyone agrees, of course. We've been fed too much misinformation and false rumours and fans are sick of it. A fan on SuperHeroHype boards comments: "I don't think we are as close to a locked cast as these sites are making it out to be. I do believe these actors mentioned are up for roles in the film and have tested but as far as official confirmation, don't hold your breath."

This just in! RUMOURED CAST LIST FOR JLA!
SuperHeroHype posted a supposed cast list for JLA and people are either freaking out or laughing their butts off.

Keep in mind that Warner Bros. has yet to reveal any cast members, but this is a list of names Superhero Hype! received over the weekend as to who might be cast in Justice League. Yes, we realize the much rumored Adam Brody is not listed here as The Flash. Our answer? We just don't know what's up, plain and simple:

Superman - D.J. Cotrona
Batman - Armie Hammer
Wally West/The Flash - Anton Yelchin
Aquaman - Santiago Cabrera
Iris - Zoe Kazan
Wonder Woman - Megan Gale
Talia al Ghul - Teresa Palmer

We must repeat, the above names are not confirmed.

Another site jumping on the JLA cast bandwagon! It's already making rounds on websites even though it was posted just over 3 hours ago.

21 year-old Armie Hammer was first mentioned to be Batman by Batman-On-Film.com but it was posted as a silly rumour. Santiago Cabrera is from the 1st season of Heroes, he was never mentioned by name before or which role he landed, just that "someone from 1st season of Heroes is on the casting list". Iris of BrandonRouth.com said she heard that. D.J. Cotrona is an old name, his name was first mentioned months ago in connection with Superman. Now he could be Batman? Anton Yelchin is going to be Chekov in the new Star Trek movie which has the same shooting schedule as JLA, so how can he be on the list?

All the rest of the names except Kazan (I think? The "Iris" is so random!) are old, too. Was SuperHeroHype just part of another misinformation campaign via Warners? All these fake lists to throw fans off the scent. Or maybe they were simply fooled by a bored "fake insider" (IESB had one a while ago, she admitted it herself later LOOOL. It was fun to watch). Someone who reads all the threads and sites and collects the rumoured names for their own "list".

SHH is also linking to the HollyWoodReporter article that JLA has no script and will get delayed because of the strike. So many sites reporting different things! O__O IMO it's only the beginning. Now is the best time for a website to make this sort of an announcement. Imagine the traffic and ad clicks they're getting! SHH hasn't posted anything exclusive on JLA for some time, maybe this is their last "scoop" before the official announcement.

A fan on IESB boards speaks wisely: "Until WB breaks the story themselves, we still really won't know what to believe. If they did run a disinformation campaign like I have suspected, they did a great job. We don't know who to believe. I also think it would be in their best interest to make the announcement soon to kind of deflect a little bit of the strike coverage."

And some general fan response (SHH boards) regarding JLA and SR sequel (admittedly by a big non-SR fan): "A lot of SR fans think that JLA pushed back SR2. Fact is, studio commissioned it to possibly replace SR2 and get Superman on track again with a possible reboot. The WB isn't coming out and saying so, but industry insiders are."

Yep. Same old, same old.

More JLA casting rumours! SO HAPPY! 'Tis getting better and better.

As reported in my previous entry, one of the rumoured actors for JLA Superman, Scott Porter, is at Wizard World Texas at the moment signing autographs, promoting the Friday Night Lights tv series and his upcoming Speed Racer movie.

A fan on IESB.net and SuperHeroHype boards got to meet him at the con. He was the first to ask Porter whether he was cast as Superman in the movie. Porter signed his Superman comic (see pics) and made a cute joke how he'd buy everyone drinks if he became Superman.

Ozymandias reports:

The Aquaman conversation began with me listing off the roles revealed on iesb.net today. He then asked "Do you watch Heroes?" I answered yes and he then went on to say that while auditioning he heard that Issac the painter from Heroes is up for the role of Aquaman.

He also told me that he tested for the role of the Flash. Disappointment filled his face as he told me Adam Brody beat him for the part and that he got a call about it yesterday. Porter told me he had until Sunday to hear about any casting, but he made it clear that it would be a miracle for anything to happen now.

Porter was also completely surprised about the Supes rumor. I was the first to even tell him about it as no one at the con had asked him yet. Everytime I called him Clark or Superman, he would just laugh and say "don't buy into the rumors."

The "Adam Brody IS Flash" rumour was just posted on IESB earlier, Ozymandias read it before going to the con. He then asked Porter about it. Clever guy!

Porter jokingly signed Ozymandias' Superman comic with: "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not..." Ozymandias laughed he got to debunk the Porter as Superman rumour but if the rumour because true after all, his comic just might be the first thing Porter signed as Superman. Cool!
On the IESB boards the same fan commented Porter sounded very honest:

The only slightly fishy thing was when he signed the comic book. He read aloud what he was writing. He began to sign it and said "maybe I am." There was a pause, and then he nodded and said "maybe I'm not." It's kind of hard to explain how it was weird without having actually heard it and seen his gestures.

I guess we could draw the conclusion that any major casting will be done soon since Porter told me his deadline to hear anything was Sunday. Thats the only indication I could get on an upcoming cast announcement from him.

While I don't think Porter looks a lot like Superman like Routh does, he seems like a very nice guy and some of his photos are actually pretty neat. Fans were discussing he looks a lot like a young GEORGE REEVES.

As I've said, he's not bad-looking but I'd have a hard time picturing him as Superman. Still, being the pessimist that I am, I think in the end he's probably half as bad as the actor we WILL get. Hahahaha!

Okay, maybe not. I should be optimistic, I know.

Sanchez of IESB comments on his boards why he won't release the complete leaked casting list:

The very simple reason is because I was not able to confirm it, I know that the cast has been locked for a week but not all my sources are agreeing with the names. The three that we mentioned yesterday, Brody, Common and Palmer were locked 100%.

I mention other names and they don't end up in the cast and then I have to deal with angry readers, agents plus other sites take my story and make it sound like I am confirming it.

Then Iris of BrandonRouth.com revealed the new Superman is supposedly a "short" Hispanic actor! O_O

Well, now that part of the list is out, I'll say that "Superman" is apparently being played by someone of Hispanic/Latino descent. Relatively no-name actor who's not very tall.

And that WW may be played by some 31-year old model.

Someone from the first season of Heroes is on the cast list.

All in all, "great" cast.

Still don't hold your breath about the film happening.

First sesaon of Heroes? Is it Santiago Cabrera (Isaac the painter)? Is he Aquaman? And sounds like Megan Gale got the part, she's the model among the rumoured Wondar Woman actresses.
Hispanic actor? So it's DJ Cortona after all? O__O But if Gale was cast, she'd look too old next to the very young Controna.

People are confused.

I've seen a few grumblings regarding Iris' comment but nothing major because it's so out of the blue and no one knows who her sources are. One fan commented he doesn't believe her over IESB because she said in the past JLA won't be made till 2010 and that Miller's not directing it. Or that she still doesn't believe this movie will happen at all. Hmm.

And another fan comment: "I'd like to really know where Iris is getting her info. if there's anything i learned from IESB is to never trust some dude in an email with an official sounding title."
Another fan disagrees, saying she was the first to post Brandon's not in JLA (way before Brandon said it himself) and that she wouldn't just make up stuff.

Iris talked a bit more about the Superman Returns sequel, a fan asked her: "1. Were Routh and Bale ever apart of the equation for JLA? 2. Honestly...should we be worried about The Man of Steel?"

Her reply:

1) Nope. Part of WB is being stupid (IMO), because they've pissed off Chris Nolan so much that he won't be returning for another Batman.

2) I don't think so. Kurtzman and Orci seem to be interested in writing a script for MoS. I think the biggest issue is simply the writer's strike.

Aah, more crunchy JLA rumour tidbits. Tasty. Several this time, I'm just gonna break them into paragraphs.

CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT NAO, PLZ?
So. People have been waiting for the supposed JLA casting announcement this week and since it's the weekend already, it looks like IESB.net's rumour was wrong and the site is losing credibility as a real insider source. Contrary to their report, no official news have been reported in the trades.

However, this doesn't mean the rumour mill has stopped for the time being now that we're back to square one. It's been an interesting Friday and Saturday, fans are discussing on the boards why there is no announcement and whether WB just missed it for some reason. Perhaps it is indeed coming very soon? There are pages upon pages of new posts today on SuperHeroHype boards alone.

There was an official announcement from WB but it was about casting for the 6th Harry Potter movie! *laugh*

When no JLA announcement came, some people started saying Variety may have been right in reporting a week ago the movie still needs to be cast and that WB is unsure how to proceed on the project because of the writers strike.

IESB.net may get some serious backlash for posting such an exciting rumour that didn't come true... again. The site clearly stated Variety is wrong and that the JLA cast is "locked", period.

So, where are we at now?

"SUPERMAN" LOLZ
Iris of BrandonRouth.com posted on BlueTights forums that "The cast list may be leaked pretty soon. Got a feeling fandom will be up-in-arms over it, especially for "Superman."". IESB's been claiming the same about the announcement, we've been waiting for weeks and weeks here. She also says "It's def not Welling; he was never part of the equation."

LOL people at SuperHeroHype were dissecting Iris' usage of "up-in-arms" and what exactly that means in this situation.

I love the Superman fandom, it's so entertaining. COMEDY GOLD!

AAAAND MORE LEAKS, HOW UNSURPRISING
Then Jett of Batman-On-Film spilled the beans on his newest scoop: Some 21 year-old guy named Armie Hammer is the JLA Batman? He doesn't believe it but he posted the rumour anyway.

Other webistes were jumping on the "we know when the announcement is" bandwagon and Ain't It Cool News reported a casting announcement is coming NEXT week. Hokay.

Their insider tipped them off:

I want you to have this before that OTHER site gets it... and I know they will.

The trades are going to announce the cast of Justice League next week, by courtesy someone connected to Ken Ralston I can tell you four confirmed names.

- Adam Brody (THE O.C., GILMORE GIRLS, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING)

- Common (SMOKIN' ACES, WANTED)

- Scott Porter (SPEED RACER 'Rex Racer', FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS tv show, DESCENT, MUSIC AND LYRICS)

- Teresa Palmer (WOLF CREEK, THE GRUDGE 2, DECEMBER BOYS)

Palmer is not Wonder Woman, I believe she's a villain. Brody is Wally West. Common is The Green Lantern. Porter, they think, is Superman. There's also word that Michael Gough might be appearing as Alfred.

The full cast should be revealed by this time next week.

Palmer as a villain (Talia?) and now Wonder Woman rumour is not new, it's been suggested by FANS on forums before this scoop. We're getting familiar names like Porter, Brody and Common. And Michael Gough is 92 and retired!

IESB calls out Ain't It Cool News for jumping on the bandwagon and "stealing" their news. They also report (rumours) Brody's going to play Flash and that Palmer is indeed Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's al Ghul, and not Wonder Woman, that Common is Green Lantern and that SCOTT PORTER IS N.O.T Superman, he apparently went for the role of Flash but Brody got it in the end! Okily dokily.

No big casting announcement but at least a few of the names. Not as good as The Big Three, though. WB would be really ticked off if the names of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman leaked before their official announcement.

One thing is for certain, actors have been sworn to secrecy and have been warned not to reveal their involvement even to their closest friends and relatives.

One studio source, who has been asked not to be mentioned by name, told the IESB that several actors that starting talking early on were warned by the production that they could lose the role if they revealed their character or even the fact that they had been cast.

They also mention Wizard World Texas again which is happening right now. Scott Porter is there as well as WB but no announcement has been made so far.

Buuuut CinemaBlend reported Scoot Porter ISSSS SUPERMAN, OKAY?

Anyway, here's the skinny. Tonight we got an email from a guy claiming to be in the know with what's going on in the JLA camp. He asked to remain anonymous, but he says he knows at least part of who is playing who. Normally I'd just delete such an email out of hand, after all we're all sick of fake JLA rumors by now, but some of what he said confirmed heretofore unknown production tidbits I'd already heard from others, and then about an hour after he sent the email to me, another site posted a story confirming at least part of his casting rumor... yet they appear to have gotten their info from a completely different source, since their cast list doesn't contain the real gem of the bunch... Superman.

Yep, whole "jumping on the bandwagon" thing. They also mention Brody, Common and Palmer like the other sites. People are speculating CinemaBlend received the same insider email as AICN. The Porter bit isn't a "gem", it's an old rumour.

Moving along...

JLA RELEASE DATE?
JLA is supposed to come out in summer 2009 but WB's taking its time with announcing the actual release date. Most of the good summer spots have already been reserved by other movies such as Angels and Demons (based on another Dan Brown novel, it's not as popular as The Da Vinci Code but it'll get attention, desired release date May 15) and Transformers 2 (the weekend on June 26) but that might change due to the strike, as the article says. I've read May, June and July all have good movies coming (must check!). Fans are suggesting May that has the least competition ("just" Wolverine). Independence Day/July 3rd popped up in discussion, too but it's Transformers 2's second weekend and could harm JLA like Pirates 2 did Superman Returns. Que people moaning and shaking heads in horror.

There is also another WB movie announced for the Summer '09 tent pole spot. Terminator 4. Will WB be having two major summer flicks that year? JLA *and* Terminator? But then again, Terminator could so flop, you never know. Maybe JLA's going to be WB's safety net in '09, like SR was in '06 and then didn't do as well as hoped. Eeeep.

Fans are hoping A&D and T2 will be pushed back even further because of the strike (they aren't shooting yet or anything) and give JLA the spot it needs.

Fan opinions: Superman Returns writers FIRED?

This post is about something I've been thinking about for a while now that it's been almost 3 weeks since news hit us Superman Returns writers Doughterty and Harris left the project and won't be writing the sequel. The news said Mike and Dan have "opted not to come back", they'll be focusing on their other projects.

This was just months after they told us in August at the Saturn Awards they're working on the sequel script right now (see video). They also mentioned they "work in a bubble" and don't know about any rumours about other movies like JLA. I found the quote interesting because it was used by Singer at the awards, too (another video, he talked about Valkyrie first, then about the SR sequel). "I certainly live in a bubble," he said about the movie Megneto being announced. He didn't hear about it right away.

Maybe Bryan, Dan and Mike talked beforehand what to say in case they're asked if they know anything about other projects with Superman in it. JLA rumours were already popping up in August. People knew something's going on. Maybe Singer & Co. didn't want to comment on it and decided to use the "living in a bubble" expression as a useful "Don't ask me, I don't know anything" tactic. It's better than "No comment", anyway. People read too much into such things. Better say "I haven't heard anything" than have fans analyze your body language and tone of voice. *chuckle* Because it's been happening a lot ever since we've had the first wave of JLA rumours. Lotsa analyzing. It's all we have.

According to Bryan, he and the writers were "starting to discuss" Man of Steel at the time. They had ideas for villains, etc. Things were moving slowly but at least there was some progress.

Then we've heard rumours two sequel pitches were presented by Singer & Co. to Warner Brothers. Not completed scripts by any means but storyline ideas, the beginning of a draft or whatever you want to call it. They were pitches.

Apparently WB didn't like them.

This is where it gets interesting. A few fans (a couple who work in the movie industry and have been posting online before SR even went into production) have been saying the Superman Returns writers Doughterty and Harris were actually fired by Warners instead of walk on their own to "pursue other projects", as was reported. It's been hinted "pursue other projects" is Hollywood lingo for "fired" since nobody says fired anymore, they'd rather have people resign/walk on their own and retain their dignity, as well as leave their careers unblemished (getting fired from a movie wouldn't exactly help your career, eh? So they let people leave the project on their own, it just sounds better).

It was also hinted the writers, friends of Singer's (he likes to work with people he knows), were forced to leave by WB because they want Singer to walk next. And if he doesn't, they will keep Man of Steel postponed for so long that Singer *will* eventually walk, tired of waiting.

I could see this happening, at least about the writers getting fired (I didn't at first, I was shocked at the implication), I really would but I'm not sure... We've heard WB didn't like the two sequel pitches Singer & Co. presented them this year. No script was finished, even though the writers said in August they are currently working on it. It was not finished by the time the strike hit us but the JLA script was finished way beforehand, so JLA is moving forward. As was reported, Gregory Noveck of DC/WB stated the fact JLA had a finished script and could begin prepping before the strike were two of the reasons why WB's fast-tracking JLA and putting MOS on the back burner. So, whatever Dan and Mike have written up to that point (pitches, ideas, etc.), it wasn't finished.

Why didn't the SR writers finish the script on time? What happened? What was in the pitches that WB didn't like? Well, we'll never know now that Mike and Dan left the project. Why did they leave after working on this thing for some time? Is it because WB didn't like the ideas? Were they fired? I hope not, I just have a strange feeling about it. Singer will have to come up with something else, present a new pitch alongside new writers. The project is getting delayed, things will be moving at a snail pace now that we're in the middle of a writers strike.

Not good news for MOS, at least at the moment. Can they find new writers by summer next year and start pre-production in the fall? They would miss the 2009 release. Maybe plan for 2010? I'm thinking 2011 or 2012 myself. By the time they actually could go with a reboot AND with Singer AND with Routh, but without the kid that so many people hated. Huh. Tristan would be too old by then, anyway. They could go with another child actor (small role) or keep Tristan and have the story happen several years after the events of SR. But the other actors aren't aging as fast as the child...

Good news would be the strike ending sooner than expected. New writers would hop on board sooner, pre-production would start sooner, the movie would hit theaters sooner.

Would Singer walk next? Who will be deciding on the new writers, WB or him? If the movie will be a sequel to SR, it's Singer's story, he decides what the writers should write about. If WB's picking the writers this time, are there writers out there who'd want to pen the sequel or only a reboot? There's a huge difference. If they were writing a complete reboot, they'd have a lot more freedom with the script. Create their own story from scratch. With a SR sequel they'd have to go with Bryan's ideas.

How much does WB like Bryan's ideas? We don't know. There are pro and anti-SR folks among WB execs. Would WB force Singer to leave the project by pushing him into a corner, demanding things he won't agree with (too low a budget, too many restraints regarding the storyline, etc). That's one way to get rid of a director. Have him leave on his own, comment publicly he's "pursuing other projects" (he is a busy man). WB could stay quiet on MOS for a while, then hire a new director and writers and reboot the franchise. That way MOS would never be "officially dead/canceled", just delayed. I highly doubt we'll ever get an official confirmation in case the sequel is dead. Only if it's moving forward.

Hence why other writers who happen to be Bryan's friends are now being mentioned in fan discussions. They don't present as many "problems" because Bryan could work with them just as well as he did with Dan and Mike. Problem solved. WB would only have to LIKE the script.
Also, another option that was suggested by fans is to hire a new director but put Singer in the position of the producer. Would he take it? I kind of doubt it but none of us know the guy, so how can we be sure of anything? Maybe if the director was a friend? Or someone with a similar enough vision?

Fired or no, it's a sad business. "Opted not to come back". What a delicate way of putting it.

Marsden and Langella on the Superman Returns sequel, plus more on JLA

This via SupermanHomepage: MTV.com asked Superman Returns actors James Marsden and Frank Langella about the sequel and how JLA will affect it.

Apparently the last people we should have asked were the actors involved.

"I know nothing. I saw one article about 'Justice League' being made, and I thought well, how's that going to affect the future of [Superman]?" James Marsden, who played Richard White in Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns" confessed to MTV News. "So I have no idea. I really don't."

Ok, fine. If Marsden couldn't give up the goods we thought maybe his on-screen ~~dad~~ UNCLE could - being a fellow journalist and all for "The Daily Planet." So Mr. Perry White - will there be another Bryan Singer "Superman"?

"I have no doubt it will happen again. I just don’t think it will happen soon," Frank Langella said.

"I thought the first one was a beautiful film. I thought the concept was staggering. It got criticized for not being the kind of Superman everybody expects but Jesus!" Langella continued. "[But that said] I had dinner with Bryan a couple months ago and he said he wants to do the next one shorter, tighter, and with a lot more action in it."

And IESB.net continues to report the JLA movie cast will be announced this week and that the strike will not delay the production:

The WGA is not slowing down the WB and its plan to get Justice League on track, WB sources tell IESB that the cast will be announced this week.

Variety reported that there may be some delays on some studio tent poles including Justice League, this is not accurate according to WB sources.

They tell the IESB that unlike the story ran by the trades, casting is 100% locked. The cast has been chosen and sworn to secrecy but official confirmation will happen sometime this week.

Well, IESB seems to be the only insider source for JLA these days. No other website has posted similar news regarding the announcement that's supposedly happening this week. It might happen by Sunday Nov 18 at the Wizard World Texas convention (it's from Nov 16-18). I've read some WB execs will be attending it.
The Nov 18 rumour actually started on CountingDown via their female insider Emi. We'll see if she was right all along!

The funny coincidence is Scott Porter will be signing autographs at the convention as well. He was one of the rumoured actors for the JLA Superman. Whoo, boy. ;) Hey, worth a chuckle!

Langella dined with Singer 2 months ago. That would be September then. If you remember, September was the month we got the news Singer's sequel will be "postponed indefinitely" and that JLA will start shooting in February and will be filming at Fox Studios in Sydney. Also, casting for minor roles began and rumours about potential actors were getting really juicy (Welling for Superman, Jessica Biel for Wonder Woman, etc). It was the month where it all REALLY started: JLA was moving forward, it was happening. The rumour mill was in full gear. At the same time we got the first news in months that Man of Steel is getting postponed.

So, around this time Singer and Langella chatted about the sequel. JLA was already happening, so Singer knew about it. I'm sure he has heard about the rumours, if nothing else.

This gives me a little hope because Langella and Marsden may only be stars in the movie who don't know what's going on and when the next movie will be but Singer's the director. 2 months ago MOS was still on the table. Let's hope nothing has changed Singer's (or WB's, they're in charge) mind in the meantime.

All in all, the quote "I have no doubt it will happen again. I just don’t think it will happen soon!" sounds kind of depressing to fans who've been waiting for so long for some actual news (or a release date). SIGH. Define "soon". He's talking like it'll take years!

Cape fabric on the left and two S shields for Singer to look at. "Beveled S" and "Spine S", both on "diamond print" background. You can see the "Spine S" has more of a 3D look. And is it just me or are the rolls of fabric below the cape in different shades of red? It could just be the bad light in the room but the first roll does seem in a brighter shade than the rest. Was Singer picking the colors here? Maybe cape texture? Interesting!

I'm posting pictures of 2 of my fave Superman t-shirts that I own, a parka and a pair of Superman Returns-like boots. :) ♥ It's not easy finding anything Superman related in women's sizes and merchandise like t-shirts has always been a real pain to shop for. I remember when I was a huge X-files fan in my teens and the smallest t-shirt I could find was like a men's L or XL. It looked like a one-piece dress on me but I loved it because it had Scully and Mulder on it and the cool X-files logo with a lightning effect in the background. Sweet. I ended up wearing it to bed mostly because it was long enough to be a nightshirt. *laugh*

Luckily nowadays us girls don't have as much problems finding superhero t-shirts in small sizes but it can still be hard. Sometimes it can be infuriating! We're also wearing tighter and shorter clothes in general than a decade ago. Fashion is changing. When it comes to Superman, lots of stuff you find on eBay isn't authentic but cheap transfers on cheap cotton. You get what you pay for. I'd rather have one good Superman t-shirt than five cheapo knock-offs with transfers peeling off after four washes.

The following authentic white t-shirt below is from SR and in size women's M/OS that I actually got from a Japanese auction. It's soft and form-fitting unlike the wide t-shirts in men's sizes (*phew!*). Not too short but not too long either. Just perfect. That's another problem with lots of official t-shirts, they're just too long!
It has the SR movie logo in the front, the S shield is 8'' (20.5 cm) wide, and at the bottom of the t-shirt it says 'Superman Returns, DC and Warner Bros', yadda yadda.

The other t-shirt I adore is in blue and has a comics style S shield, official merchandise by DC Comics.

I got this one in women's size M on eBay UK. It's only slightly wider than my SR shirt, form-fitting enough but still comfortable. It's in a nice 'Dean Cain blue'. :)

Oh, I also have a blue SR movie parka that I got on another Japanese auction, it's in men's size M though but still a good fit, especially after it shrunk a bit. It was available via the Kellogg's SR campaign (300 pieces, I think they were either giveaways or part of a contest). I don't know if you can get it anywhere else but I'm sure there are other SR parkas available.

It has the movie logo emblem on the side, with 'Superman Returns' text below. The other white shield and text you see there are part of the bag. :) I kept the bag because it's awesome.

And now to the promised pics of the boots! Oh, my bootses, how I love you. Got them after over a year-long search on eBay. In a darker red and midcalf length just like Routh's, they're wonderfully comfortable (I'm shocked how much, actually) and easy to wear with skinny jeans, leggings or skirts. They have that sporty look that is hard to get in this color. Well, any red boots are hard to get unless you're looking for slouchy style, stiletto, pointy toe, snakeskin, go-go style, super high heels, rain boots... Lots of red boots are sexy but none come in a simple, classic style Reeve's Superman or Slater's Supergirl would wear. So hard to find a pair in Supergirl style or just a style that doesn't scream "indecent". Honestly. *sigh* And Returns-style boots are just as difficult to get.

They're tight and I can barely tuck my black skinny jeans inside. They look best on either bare legs or with leggings, so definitely "Supergirl Returns" style. Or should I say "Supergirl Begins"? The boots will look nice with my "Supergirl Begins" costume (sort of a redesign, a mix between Returns and the original Slater movies, I'm not sure yet) but for now I'm wearing them with my everyday clothes and they're just the coolest pair of boots ever! I feel very super wearing them. :)

Sorry for the flash in these pics, I never use flash as a rule because it changes the colors and washes out people's faces, etc, but since the pics were taken inside, I had to.

You can see the reflects of the flash on the boots. They're not actually that shiny, urgh, but at least the color on the pics is accurate. *hates flash*

LOLOL I should have cleaned up the black soles first before taking pics, sorry. I've clearly worn them already. ;)

That's a LOTR Legolas door poster in the background. LOTR is my other major fandom next to Superman.

I think they're cool and since they're for a Supergirl costume and not Superman, they don't have to be 100% accurate. Yay for redesigns! Supergirl totally steals ideas from Superman's costume and redesigns them as she sees fit. *laugh*

Now if I could only find a pair in the Helen Slater Supergirl style in case I make the classic Slater costume, too. I think I'd have to make them myself, they're almost sock-like and have that yellow strip on top...

Man, I need to get myself BlueTights and SupermanHomepage t-shirts next! Routh knows of both websites and besides, it's good to embrace your inner geek and support the sites by wearing their t-shirts proudly. Whohoo!

Two actor names pop up in connection with JLA, one for Wonder Woman

MovieHole reports about another actor is in talks for the JLA movie. This time it's Andy Whitfield, an unknown (one movie and one tv ep under his belt).

Whitfield up for Justice League?

Speaking to us about his new film "Gabriel", writer/director/producer Shane Abbess tells Moviehole that director George Miller could be interested in his star Andy Whitfield – who plays the titular role in the 'battle of the angels' thriller – for a role in "Justice League".

We weren't told who Whitfield might be up for – Batman? Superman?.... Bank Clerk#2? – just that there could be interest.

Whitfield was tight-lipped when we asked him about the talk, but did say that if something comes off in it, it'd be fun.

There's a bit of a van Damme vibe on the Whitfield pic MovieHole posted. It just reminds me of a vam Damme movie. *chuckle* Hmm, which part in the movie do you think would suit him? Batman? The lack of good pics of him isn't helpful. Here's a nicer pic:

SupermanHomepage also reported on it. Whitfield's a nice-looking guy but does he have "it"? Bale has that special something and that rough, handsome look. Routh is classically handsome. Maybe this guy is a tad too "bland"? Not bad in any way, just too uninteresting. There's just nothing special I see about him appearance-wise. Just another face, you know? Is it just me? The same can't be said about the next possible contender.

The Herald Sun reported about a possible Wondar Woman actress:

Gale is believed to be on a short-list of one for the role of Wonder Woman in the big budget film Justice League of America.

Gale, who was in Melbourne yesterday appearing at the David Jones Christmas concert with Santa Claus, declined to comment when questioned about the Wonder Woman role.

"I can't talk about it," Gale said. "I wish I could, but I can't."

But she said if she was ever going to portray a superhero, Wonder Woman would be her choice.

"For females there is only one -- Wonder Woman," she said. "I have always loved Wonder Woman. Ever since I was about 15, people have said, 'Oh, you look like Wonder Woman'. She is the best."

It is believed Gale was asked to audition for the role, made famous by Linda Carter in the 1970s TV series, several weeks ago after US actor Jessica Biel declined the role.

Ah, I wouldn't say "for females there is only one", honestly. WW isn't the only female superhero out there, unless she meant specifically a female in this JLA.

Megan Gale is 32 years old, so a bit older than the preferred late 20's age that the director's supposedly going for. She has done several movies, is 5'10" (177cm) tall and has a model figure. Plenty of sexy bikini shots of her online, if you do a lil' search. The fanboys have done so already LOL.

This is a nice fighter pose, it reminds me a bit of Wonder Woman.

I've seen fan comments from "She has that right Amazonian look for Wonder Woman!" to "Get that manface off my screen!". She does have a very interesting, unique look. Maybe casting someone that isn't "conventionally" beautiful is the best way to go (but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so...). Perhaps an ingenious casting choice. Not going with someone people would expect, I mean. It wouldn't be just another pretty face but an exotic face you definitely remember. Since she's a model, her looks vary from pic to pic and sometimes she has lots of make-up on but there's something about her. IMO she looks better without so much make-up, it really changes her features a lot. See pics for examples.

Guys want a very tall, strong-looking actress who can act. Someone with a presence, someone worthy of Wonder Woman. I agree but I get the feeling we'll get someone just right in the looks department (facially) but she'll be slim, not muscly or with thunder thighs. Simply because skinny works for female roles in movies, especially leading roles of this caliber. Pretty and slim. That's about it. I hope Miller knows we expect more from WW. Well, I did see a few "I don't care about her acting as long as she's hot!" fanboy comments but those are a minority which is pleasantly surprising. And I don't know if Gale can act, I don't think I've seen any of her movies.

But she can't talk about the role... The usual. I've read when Routh was cast, he was also under a Non-Disclosure Agreement and was not allowed to make a statement to the press before he was officially announced. Apparently he had to hide out in his apartment for a week after IGN posted the rumour he was cast. People went nutso for him.
The secrecy about JLA isn't that surprising since the movie hasn't even being announced yet. But is it annoying? Hell, yes. It is to fans.

The good news to me is, the rumoured casting choices are getting better and better.
