The Clark Kent Challenge begins!
The Clark Kent Challenge
Run by Locksley /
houseofel
Oct 12 – Nov 17 2007
Hello and welcome to "The Clark Kent Challenge" for creative fans to submit their works based on the DC Comics character Clark Kent, Superman's alter-ego. The submissions can be from any Superman medium (comics, movies, cartoons, tv series...). Whether it's Smallville Clark, Metropolis Clark, "traveling Clark", it's your call.
You don't have to have a livejournal account to participate in this challenge. If you're not a member here but would like to send in a submission, please comment on this entry as an 'anonymous user' via the comments form or email me at locksley AT liccalicca.net (replace AT with @, no spaces).
The challenge is looking for these types of submissions:
- fanfiction stories (any length) including:
- drabbles (100 words),
- ficlets (200, 300, 400 or 500 words)
- poetry (poems, haiku, etc)
- scripts.
- fanart (drawings, sketches, doodles, comic strips, etc)
- livejournal icons (max size 100x100 pixels, max file size 40kB)
- desktop wallpapers
- manipulated images (aka "manips")
- animations
- other graphics (livejournal headers, banners, postcards, collages, etc. Please specify!)
- music videos.
Let me know if there's anything else Clark-related you would like to submit, just comment in this post.
Please specify the name of the movie or tv series your Clark comes from. If he's based on a certain comics story or cartoon series, please let us know. If you're not going with any specific fandom, you can also write about him in general (just specify it as "general" then). AU (Alternate Universe) is allowed.
All submissions must be new, made specifically for this challenge.
Your graphics entry(ies) must be in GIF, JPG, or PNG format.
Your works may include pairings as long as one of the characters is Clark, of course! :) Any pairing is accepted. Original characters are fine, as well.
Crossovers and crossover pairings are allowed. Crossovers happen when two fandoms collide, for example you write a story about Clark Kent from the Smallville tv series meeting the Superman Returns Clark Kent OR a completely unrelated character like Hiro Nakamura from Heroes tv series.
Real-People fanfic, art, etc, is not allowed. The challenge is about Clark Kent the fictional character, not actors like Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh. :)
All ratings are accepted. Please specify these before the lj-cut, same with any warnings the viewers should be aware of.
You can use the MPAA rating system.
The deadline for the challenge is November 17 2007.
CHALLENGE SPECIFICS
The are three types: prompts (category 1), scenario challenges (category 2) and picture challenges (category 3).
PROMPTS
You may choose any of the prompts below (see table) to base your submission on. You may pick up to TWO prompts PER SUBMISSION but you can turn in as many submissions as you like (fanfic, graphics, etc) until the deadline. Whether you stick to just one or two prompts per entry, it's up to you. This allows for some interesting mixing and combinations so let's see what you come up with! :)
The prompt words don't actually have to be mentioned in your story, you're basing your entry submission on them. The prompts should be implied, though, and it's your decision how to incorporate them into your work.
This is not a "first come, first serve" kind of challenge where people get to choose certain prompts/challenges from the list for themselves and others can't pick the same ones anymore. All the prompts are available to everyone at any time. Please only choose the prompts from your column (either writer or artist).
SCENARIO / PICTURE CHALLENGES
As for scenario challenges and picture challenges, you may pick only ONE challenge PER SUBMISSION. They are not the same as prompts.
You can not combine prompts, scenario and picture challenges (see below) for your submissions. Only different prompts.
Please post the submission in your journal when it's finished and then comment in this entry and cut & paste the following form into your comment:

SCENARIO CHALLENGES (for both writers and artists)
Base your entry on one of the following scenarios (only one scenario per submission):
- Clark befriends someone (either canon or original character, any setting)
- What If... Clark worked for the Daily Planet's rival newspaper?
- Young Clark ends up in detention with 4 other high school students. The inspiration for this challenge was the the well-received 1985 movie The Breakfast Club (your entry doesn't have to be based on the movie, of course). You can use canon or original characters for Clark's classmates/other students in the group.
- Clark gets mistaken for someone else (not for Superman ;))
- Clark signs up for the wrong school trip (can be in elementary school, high school, college, university)
- Clark writes a letter to someone
- CATEGORY 3
PICTURE CHALLENGES (for writers, doesn't have to be comicsverse)
Click on the pics for bigger versions!
Just a small category. :) Base your entry on one of the following pictures (only one picture per submission):
- Picture 1: Ma Kent and Clark sewing the costume

- Picture 2: Daily Planet co-workers and Lois clapping at Clark

- Picture 3: Little Clark giving Shelby a bath

And that's it! *phew* The challenge is starting sooner than I thought. Please comment with any questions you might have and have fun, everyone! :o)
